Footing Consulting:
The Science behind the Decision Making Process |

Footing Consulting:
The Science behind the Decision Making Process |

Taking a sand sample:
Each sample should be about 1 quart of material.
For each sample, please collect 3-4 cores, from the surface all the way to the base - widely collected throughout each arena to be analyzed.
If any area of the arena has high/low spots or differences in consistency, collate and separate that collection of subsamples from the rest of the sample.
Mix the similar cores together.
Separately, both the lab and arena expert will want to run separate analyses.
Please provide watering metrics, the grooming routine and an estimated cost and frequency, so we can help you look at the sensitivity analysis of what the cost/benefit would be for the following:
- Continuing with existing routine
- Replacement sand
- Replacement sand and pro footing
- Replacement sand, pro footing, and change in watering/grooming routine (including possible subsurface watering system).

GGT will augment the quality of a wide range of sand profiles: SILICA versus MASONARY SAND
Silica Vs. Washed Concrete or Masonary Sand:
- Similar quality of footing will result whether washed concrete or silica sand is used.
- Silica sand is more costly, sometimes by as much as double
- Silica sand needs more water, so any water conservation resulting from the use of GGT could be canceled out.
- Silica sand compacts more than washed conrete and coupled with additional watering, results in potentially more maintenance.
- Underground watering system is overkill. If not using silica sand, no need for the water system.
Ratio of Sand:
- The quality of sand and the ratio of sand to product mix is essential to the resulting footing.
- Depending on usage - traffic, level of competitions being held, the amount of recommended footing additive could be as much as double that for a small, private or light traffic facility.
- Final amounts of product TBD based sand composition, consultant suggestions, users needs.
Benefits of GGT:
- Increased quality of footing
- Water conservation (holds moisture so watering won’t have to occur as often)
- Lower maintenance (because the sand doesn’t break down as quickly, sand won’t have to be worked/replaced as often).
- Long list of additional PERFORMANCE benefits see related web pages.
